As the World Turns
Here's what I did today: worked, watered lawn, made hamburgers, did laundry, changed a lightbulb.
My favorite soap opera, As The World Turns, is a lot more interesting. So I'll tell you what happened on the show today instead:
In spite of Simon's pleas that he has changed, Katie realizes she can't forgive him and throws him out.
Meanwhile, Mike tells Margo that he still loves Katie more than ever, but feels he doesn't deserve her. Margo goes to Katie and, after hearing what Simon did, urges Katie to go to Mike. Later on, Katie does.
Lucy continues to defend Dusty to Nikki. Nikki tells Lucy that she'll take her out of here and home right now but Lucy chooses to stay with Dusty. Dusty takes Nikki aside and says someone on the inside is arranging Lucy's kidnapping and Nikki agrees to work with Dusty to find out who that is. By the end of the day, Dusty realizes that Lucy is a different kind of woman than he has ever dealt with before.
Lucinda tries to stop Lily from helping Craig, saying that Craig is only setting Lily up. In an emotional declaration, Craig says that his problems are his own fault. Lily remains loyal to Craig and says that Lucinda is too suspicious. Later, Nikki tells Craig that she has seen Lucy and she is all right, but she refuses to tell Craig where Lucy is. She assures him that she will find Lucy's would-be kidnappers, and gives him the name and description of the man with the tattoo. Later, Craig bursts in on the tattooed man and his partner and says it's all over.
Jack arrives at Metro and takes over the investigation of Molly's disappearance. Holden says he thinks Dusty is somehow responsible. At the same time, Rocco is locking Molly in an abandoned building's broken elevator. Molly, who is claustrophobic, struggles to hold on to her sanity.

Mel
Mood:
cheeky
Yesterday I saw my friend Mel for the first time since December. She moved from Sioux Falls to Albuquerque last October, so it's not very often that I get to spend any time with her. It was fun hanging out with her, she came to see EROS, then my house, then we went out in Sioux Falls after that. I wasn't much in the mood for partying though, by the time we got to the bars I was totally tired, so we went to Poppadox and then I went home because I was almost ready to fall asleep. I feel kind of bad but I wasn't that good of company anyway.
Today I just stayed around the house and did all the laundry (there was a mountain of it). I got the lawn chair out and laid out on the deck and read a little bit of the 4th Harry Potter book. I realize I need to do that in the mornings when the sun will shine right on me... our deck faces the east so about mid-afternoon the deck is completely covered in shade. Travis brought me home some Chinese food from Hy-Vee after he got off work...mmm that was good. I probably gained 5 pounds from eating it all.

Holy cow I was tired...
Mood:
d'oh
I don't know what was so hard about today but I was just tired as hell when I got home. Maybe it was the brainstorming that I had to do on process integration or the last minute build I did before I left, but I was very tired... I came home and fell asleep on the couch. And of course now that I took a few hours for a nap, I'm not tired at all when I really should be sleeping. Travis had no problem with sleeping tonight, I am in the living room right now and I can hear him sawing wood through the walls. His snoring usually subsides after a half hour or so, so maybe I'll wait until then to attempt to go to bed.
Travis starts his job early tomorrow morning with Hy-Vee. Haha - he has to be to work at 7am. I hope he really likes this job, I'd like to see him stay there for a long time and move up the ladder.
For those that may not know much about Hy-Vee, here's the link to their corporate site: http://www.hy-vee.com/
Golly - its kind of hard to write in a blog since one of the first things I'm inclined to do is start bitching about people, but the bad side is that anyone could potentially see this entry, then they'd be mad at me for complaining about them. So maybe I should keep my opinions to myself and vent them in an area where they aren't available to the world. Or I suppose I could just make the post private. But that would just be too easy.

Another day in paradise
Mood:
lazy
Today overall has been a pretty decent day. Travis had an interview this morning for 2nd assistant manager at the Hy-Vee on 26th and Marion in Sioux Falls. After the interview was over, I guess the manager hired Travis on the spot. So that is excellent news, he'll end up being in charge of like 200 of the 300+ employees that work there. So he called up the road construction company that he's currently working for and told them he's officially done with that job since he starts orientation with Hy-Vee tomorrow. Luckily, they didn't have a problem with him quitting right away.
The day was calm and quiet for me for most of the morning, then in the afternoon I got a voice mail from my line manager, Dennis, asking me to come to his office. So I did and he told me that I didn't get the Systems Engineering position that I had interviewed for a few weeks ago, but I had made a hugely strong, positive impression with everyone in the interview. Apparently I was running neck and neck with the guy who got the job, but the only reason he got it was because he has worked in the LP DAAC (the name of the project) and already has a working knowledge of it. It was a good rejection though since Dennis had so many good things to say about how I interviewed - I really wasn't expecting to get the job anyway.
So when I got home Travis and I decided to go to Sioux Falls and take a grocery shopping trip to his new store. I think its great how we walk in to a grocery store and walk right by all the healthy fresh fruits and vegetables and straight to all the junk food and greasy pizzas. Just an observation on the way we shop.
Then I got home and found out that Mel is back in town until this weekend sometime, so Laura and I are going to try and get together with her on Thursday night. That should be fun, I haven't seen Mel since Christmas!
It's late once again so I should go to bed soon... I've got another exciting day of Configuration Management boredom ahead of me tomorrow. I can't wait 'til I get a Systems Engineering job...that'll be so much more interesting and fulfilling.

Virgin Blogger
Mood:
happy
This is my first blog entry ever. Some people would be so proud that I've finally given it a try. Anyway, this past weekend was awesome. Two of my best friends in the world got married (to each other, of course) and Travis and I got to share in their big day.
It was definitely a busy weekend, I can tell you that. Poor Theresa was still ailing from being sick the whole week before the wedding and from what I hear, Jeremy was still recovering from a long night of drinking with his buddies earlier that week.
But things came together very nicely with only a couple minor snafu's along the way, like wrong vest colors for the dads and ring bearer. Their wedding was very beautiful and the reception was held outdoors on the banks of Lake Herman. It was a gorgeous day for a wedding.

I think that if there are four things we can come away with this weekend knowing for sure, it's this: 1. Frogeritas are not good. Don't let the first sip deceive you. 2. Shane needs lessons on how to do the worm. 3. Jeremy can take comfort in knowing that all the keys to their apartment have been returned. ;-) 4. Jeremy and Theresa are perfect for each other.
Jeremy and Theresa, congratulations, I wish you both love, health, and happiness for the rest of your lives and I hope we remain friends until the day we die.
